Closed systems = complacency.

...the whole point is to preserve the status quo. Complacency is the hallmark of any closed system.

After just having written the post, "What is Your School's Mission?" at http://drezac.com , I was surprised to see this post coming from the Google Blog about open systems. Yes, you can chide Google for not "opening" up their search algorithms, but then they'd be trading at $70/share. Still, this quote sticks with me. As progressive educators, many of us with our PLN work in an open system in the blogosphere and outside of our districts, but at work, it's all back to complacency. We push and we try, and we get frustrated because both systems are fighting against each other. Isn't what we need- a new system? Why aren't our leaders trying to change that?
